Biography

John Farkas In the years following his discharge in 1946 he stayed in the naval reserves and married Theresa Golaszewski. They settled in South River, NJ and had two children, Eileen and Joe. He worked in construction for a shorttime following his discharge before taking a job as a Supervisor at the Raritan Arsenal in Edison, NJ. He was working at the Arsenal in 1951 when he was called up as a reservist to serve in Korea and went on to spend the next sixteen months on active duty serving as a Fire Control instructor on the USS Salerno Bay (CVE-110). Following his service in Korea he went back to the Raritan Arsenal, followed by work at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the Philadelphia Navy and finally the Department of Defense Contract Administration Service. He retired in December 1983 and remained in South River until 2013 when he and Terry finally moved to Florida to escape the cold. They have five grandchildren - two of whom are carrying on the family naval tradition as U.S. Naval Academy graduates. They also have three great-grandchildren.
